Teaching Visual Rhetoric with the ComicLife App

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The word “comics” conjures images of Spiderman in the minds of most. But comics are not just texts that entertain. The complex interaction of words, images, sound, and space in comics makes them a rich site for the study of visual rhetoric in the classroom. The iPad app ComicLife allows students to practice principles of visual rhetoric to create their own comics, regardless of artistic ability. Using technology to create multimedia texts like comics cultivates the kinds of 21st Century literacy skills that scholars and organizations like the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) have stressed that students need.
