Franca Gilbert was born in Baudour, Belgium and was a student in the Belgian school system through the third grade. In 1974, she immigrated to the US with her mother and sister and learned English. She attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA on a full ROTC scholarship and earned a BSBA with a concentration in Accounting in 1987. In June of 1987, she entered the US Army where she served in a variety of positions and locations, Augsburg, Germany and Fort Bragg, NC where she was a paratrooper for three years and achieved the rank of captain. In 1996, she earned her Master's in Teaching from East Tennessee State University. She joined the Franklin Academy faculty in July 2007 as the French Teacher. She pursued and achieved the National Board Teaching Certificate in World Languages (French K-12) in 2009. She has presented on World Languages topics as well as technology topics such as the iPad at both regional and national conferences. She was named “Top 10 Presenter” at FLANC (Foreign Languages Association of North Carolina) conference in October 2012. She was recently named Foreign Languages Association of North Carolina (FLANC) Teacher of the Year for 2014. She is passionate about foreign languages in general and French in particular. Mrs. Gilbert has lived extensively in Belgium, Italy, and Germany.
